Get Covered. Get in the Game.

Each year, many children who want to participate in school or community sports are sidelined because they don’t have health insurance. They may not be able to afford a physical or their families worry they’ll get hurt on the field. Without health insurance, they can’t play.

CHIP and Medicaid are available now! In 2010, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched Get Covered. Get in the Game. in seven pilot states, including Colorado, Florida, Maryland, New York, Greater Cleveland, Oregon and Wisconsin. The pilot is designed to bring coaches, schools, families and communities together to raise awareness about available health coverage and get eligible children enrolled. Getting covered will protect them both on and off the field.

Nearly five million uninsured kids are eligible for health coverage today. Get Covered. Get in the Game. supports the Connecting Kids to Coverage challenge issued by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in February, which calls on government and community leaders, the faith community and others to help enroll the nearly five million kids who are eligible for CHIP or Medicaid but remain uninsured.

CMS developed informational materials for each of the seven pilot states. Campaign materials are available online at InsureKidsNow.gov.

This document is designed to provide child advocates, policy makers, service providers, funders, the media, and people who care about these issues a quick reference guide and background on many of the issues they might face.

Information is power, which is why Voices’ created the “Child Advocacy Glossary of Terms.” It is important that people understand terminology in this field in order to feel confident when advocating for better public policies for their children and families.

It is periodically reprinted to include updates contributed from the Glossary or Terms Wiki, because the landscape of public policy is everchanging.

Child Data Fact Sheets

Voices for Greater Cleveland Children released Child Data Fact Sheets for each of Greater Cleveland 88 counties. Advocates, the media and policy makers can find up to date, critical county-level, demographic and child data in one place. This provides a snapshot on children in your community, how children and families benefit from existing health and human service program and where gaps exist. The Child Fact Sheets will be a valuable tool for child-health professionals and lawmakers who are interested in improving the well-being of our community's children and families.

Transitional Youth Project - Wiki

This space was initially provided as a type of portal for disseminating and distributing information, documents and files surrounding Transitional Youth during the Transitional Youth project. Even though this project is closed and the articles are not open for editing, we believe that they serve to provide information regarding the findings over the course of the project and lend insight into the outcomes as a result.
